Segurazo Antivirus? Is it Antivirus... Or Virus? It's Been Hiding In Our Downloads!

So I was going to YouTube and installed a mod menu for a game (the comments were really convincing) and then I was installing through wizard. Asked me to install some additional stuff, said Decline.
That ''mod menu'' didn't even work. Now lets get into the real story.

I had some software (3 of them) 2 of them were easy to uninstall, but this one was Segurazo. At first I thought ''Oh, nice they added a antivirus too my download'' but in my surpise, This ''Segurazo'' actually mines bitcoin using your laptop (too bad on my broke butt) So I had to uninstall. But it not too simple. Heres how I did it.
NOTE: BEFORE DOING THIS TURN OFF YOUR WIFI

First go into ''Uninstall programs'' in control panel and search ''SAntivirus''. Now press on it and click ''Uninstall'' Now it will bring you to this popup. click ''REMOVE PROTECTION'' Now it should show a loading screen just wait.

It now asks you to reboot your computer. Reboot and log back on.
If you did turn off your wifi, There should be this ''We've got you covered'' popup. Now check off both of them. click ''Uninstall''. Now you''ll have to wait a bit for it to uninstall. Once done, you've finally defeated this shitware that mines bitcoin.

Some people say it reinstalls when you restart, or you need to delete using program files x86 or regedit, i didnt do any of that shit and it still hasn't reinstalled so if it does, go use program files and regedit or use Malwarebytes.

Atleast I learned a lesson on not to download random shit you find on the web.

Just my 5 cents. I noticed my CPU running at 50% on Ubuntu with only Vivaldi browser on. Clearing the cache solved the issue.

I deleted just the cache. The other browsing data items were left unchecked.

How secure is my setup?

Hello everyone I want to know your thoughts on my setup :)
COMPUTER
I use Linux (Debian) as my primary host system, a VPN that runs 24/7 in the background and a virtual machine that runs the latest version of tails (Without using persistent storage).
NOTE: My computer was wiped before installing Linux, it is setup with luks encryption and the BIOS is locked down.
ACCOUNTS
I use 5 temp protonmail accounts, I use all 5 for separate Bitcoin wallets, 1 account I use to buy the Bitcoin, 3 accounts for mixing, e.g: mix>move>mix>move>mix>move. And the last account for buying.
I will not be using any personal information during the process
BUYING THE BITCOIN
I will extract cash from my credit card at a bank, use the cash to buy non-refillable pre-paid debit cards, buy Bitcoin from BlockChain.com definitely not coin base and lastly dispose the pre-paid cards.
After I use the Bitcoin I will delete all accounts and restart the process when I'm going to buy something
(I'm only using Bitcoin to buy things privately, not to buy illegal things.)

New PC, new everything, drives disappearing & malware

Hi all,
Been searching for answers regarding disappearing drives but only found stuff regarding potentially failing older drives.
My computer and all components are new save one SSD and I assembled it in June.
Components: Ryzen 3700x Vengeance 32GB 3200MHz Gigabyte 2070s MSI B450 Gaming carbon Corsair 750w modular PSU All high end Corsair braided cables
Now the drives: Samsung Evo 860 500gb C: Samsung Evo 860 500gb D: (photos - lightroom) Samsung Evo 850 250gb E: (games) Toshiba 1tb F: (storage)
Only the D: and E: drives periodically disappear. It's I'd say about 10-20% of the time after turning the computer on. Restarting usually makes em come back.
All drives have good health according to Magician and are healthy according to Dskmgmt. The 850 comes from a previous computer but was thoroughly wiped (formatted, volumes and partitions deleted in Dskmgmt then reformatted again). Magician says 6.5tb were written on it. It was on a laptop and with not much file movement on it save for .docs .pdfs and the likes.
Now comes the malware part, though I have no idea if it is connected.
Back in July I realised the PC was infected with malwares since I couldn't access Windows defender (only had the blank 'security at a glance screen, and defender had indeed been disabled from the reg). I'd been a greedy bastard and might have gone on unsafe websites. Installed malware bytes, which found a bunch of malware including the one responsible for the defender registry debacle. It found other bitcoin mining stuff too. It apparently took care of it, however, since the computer was new, I did a full windows reinstall without keeping files. I set the few important files aside on a drive and scanned everything beforehand.
Everything was fine, fast forward about 3 weeks ago when I tried launching a game and steam tells me I have to download it again. The game drive was gone. I restarted and everything was back to normal. After a while I thought 'eh, let's have ole Defender scan this mess' and bam! No defender, blank 'security at a glance' screen...
Back with MWB, more or less same results as before with defender registry hack, bitcoin mining stuff and all.
Thing is, I had been much more careful and hadn't downloaded anything, so this seems even weirder for me.
I did another fresh windows install two days ago, not saving files (except storing the heavy steam library after full scan), thinking I'd be safe again and could finally enjoy a clean and proper PC.
However, this morning, as I tried launching a game, I realised both the game drive and photo drive are gone.
Restarted and it's fine, but damn is it annoying.
TL;DR: drives disappear randomly it appears, but 2 malwares infestations makes me doubt everything. Everything's brand spanking new though one drive is slightly older but in good health! High quality cables.
Thanks for any input and for reading that damn mess. Cheers!

PSA: Enable Tor as a simple way to make your node reachable.

Become one of the 10% of node operators that receive incoming connections.
Installing bitcoin core is easy, and with pruning it really isn't the space sink it is characterized as. Even a modest computer can complete the initial block download (IBD) and become a full node. But what some users (90%) find a bit more challenging, is how to become a listening node. Listening nodes are an important part of the network, and are simple enough to enable. I can think of 4 ways to do it:
  1. Operate on an OS and Network that support uPnP, allowing bitcoin to open the ports for you.
  2. Subscribe to a VPN that allows you to open ports through their service.
  3. Manually configure your OS and network to forward port 8333 and 18333.
  4. Run Tor and direct bitcoin to listen through it.
I'll discuss #4. Obviously #1 or #2 are easier, but require a VPN subscription or uPnP enabled HW. And if you live in a dorm or don't control the network, Tor may be the only free option available.
As a bit of background, bitcoin supports three networks that your node can listen on:
Obviously, the more you enable, the better, but here are the basic steps for Tor in broad strokes. If you have any questions post them here and I'll see if we can't help you out:
  1. Download, verify1 and install Gpg4win
  2. Download, verify2, install, and launch Tor Browser
  3. Download, verify3, install, and launch Bitcoin Core
  4. Launch and Admin command console in the directory containing tor.exe
  5. Install the Tor service: tor.exe --service install
  6. CD to service dir: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\tor
  7. Create and edit a file called torrc with the contents suggested below
  8. Restart tor: tor.exe --service stop && tor.exe --service start
  9. Record the hostname: type .\HiddenService\hostname as
  10. Add the bitcoin.conf options suggested below
  11. Restart the bitcoin-qt program
  12. (Optional) Activate the bitnodes crawler at https://bitnodes.io/nodes/-8333/
It may take a while for your node to show up on bitnodes. I've found the check button sometimes has trouble with onions. Of course you don't need to do it, but it can provide a simple way to check status once your on the list.

torrc file: (replace c:\windows with the proper path as needed)

```
Change to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming
Log notice file \tor\service.log
Bridges may be needed if the Gov't shuts down Tor exit nodes. Get Bridges by
emailing [email protected] from Gmail (only) and uncomment as follows:
Bridge obfs4 : cert= iat-mode=
HiddenServiceDir \tor\HiddenService HiddenServiceVersion 2 HiddenServicePort 8333 127.0.0.1:8333 HiddenServicePort 18333 127.0.0.1:18333 ```
bitcoin.conf file: (entries to be ADDED)
```

Change to what you recorded earlier

onion=127.0.0.1:9050 listen=1 externalip= discover=1 ```

My college essay on Bitcoin and computers. First Draft. Thought you all might like this.

I always thought computers were simple. At their fundamental level, they are just 1s and 0s. An invisible dance of yes’s and no’s running through a sheet of silicon at billions of times per second. Computers are amazing and unique machines that will forever be apart of our lives. Our sheer dependence on computers motivated me to research the topic? As my understanding of this concept grew, so did my curiosity. I started researching computers as much as I could. I would spend hours a day browsing Youtube and reading articles just to satisfy my interest. That’s why when my dad first brought up the topic of bitcoin during my freshman year, I wasn’t surprised to hear his enthusiasm. I had learned much about this currency over my couple years of research, but I knew very little about how to actually make money off it. He had been tracking the price for a few months and was considering buying a few, just to see what would happen. Little did either of us know; the price of this virtual coin would multiply nearly 30 times in just a few short months.
A few weeks passed and eventually he brought up the topic of buying bitcoin again. His initial interest inspired me to look more into currency and how it worked. I told my dad there was another way to make money off of bitcoins: Bitcoin miners. These impressive and powerful computers are precisely optimized to earn these coins, and I knew I could make one. I explained how this was my once in a lifetime opportunity, like how he explained to me that he missed out on investing in Apple in the 80s. “It could be a money-printing machine,” I joked. With our excitement peaked, we decided to split the $2,000 investment 50/50, and I started the buying process.
I started the process by buying the parts of the machine. I had learned that like Legos, a computer consists of simple components to make the whole. However, unlike an ordinary everyday computer, ours would have a concentrated task. Mining bitcoin is not a complicated process for a computer to do. In essence, by completing simple math problems as quickly as possible, a computer process’ bitcoin transactions from around the world and is rewarded in a tiny fraction of a coin. As more and more transactions take place, the higher the demand for processing, and the higher the reward.
I was lucky enough to know how to build the computer. However, what I was not prepared for was the constant troubleshooting and maintenance I would have to give to this project. Sometimes the computer would simply turn off randomly, sometimes a part was not detected, and other times it merely just ran at half its optimized rate. I learned how to fix issues where there was no logical reason for the problem. Like a calculator, I always thought a computer could never mess up. My hundreds of hours of troubleshooting and blind hope quickly changed my view. I put a vast amount of free time into the project, knowing that potential it had. After lots of hard work, long nights, and determination, I had finally completed my dream project.
I was proud of what I had created. The computer was placed in my room and was like a pet. The loud but rhythmic fans helped me fall asleep, and the heat kept me warm during the winter. From school, I would monitor the machine, and if it had run into an error, I would simply restart it from my phone. My plan was working, and in a little over half a year, our investment should turn into profit. In only a few months, we were already halfway to making our money back. We were lucky because the price of bitcoin itself had doubled since we started, going from nearly $10,000 to $20,000 in a few short months, but as I looked at my account, I had no bitcoin. A few days earlier, hackers had stolen $64 million dollars from the company I mined with.
I felt like a victim. I had done everything right. I built the computer perfectly, I managed everything, I put the time in, and I put the effort in. I was robbed, and I was discouraged. Forced with no other option, we restarted our operation. Bitcoin was still increasing in price, we thought, so there was no reason to stop now. Our operation had restarted and was going well, but for the first time since we started, the price of bitcoin was not doing so well. The bubble was about to burst. It began with my hack, which made national news and hurt the price. Although the price recovered in a few weeks, it was going down again, fast. Believing it would improve, my dad and I decided to hold and not sell. A month later, Bitcoin was back to $8,000 per coin. The fad was over, and we couldn’t even make a profit over our cost of electricity. Again, I was robbed. I did nothing wrong and still lost almost everything. I decided to put the computer in a box and wait a few months; however, the wait was worthless. The coin plateaued at about $10,000, and it simply was not sustainable to continue mining. A year later, we sold the computers for parts and managed to make back about half our initial investment. It was over.
I had lost over $1,000 and months of time and effort. However, as I moved on and started to reflect on the experience, I was the winner. I learned so much about computers and how they operate. In the end, I had learned many skills, from patience and compassion to planning and researching. I had learned not only to build a computer but to manage systems and multitask. I learned countless lessons and gained essential and unique skills that I hope will carry me throughout life. This unique experience has taught me to always keep trying at what I believe in. There’s always an award for doing whatever I think is right. I hope to bring these beliefs and lessons with me throughout life, as I learn and grow from what I was taught. Whenever people ask me what computers are, I always laugh and explain how a computer is just a bunch of simple lego bricks working together to do complicated tasks. However, inside I still have trouble answering this simple question. It is merely just parts working together, but a computer is so much more complicated and beautiful than that. Honestly, I still don’t understand them.

WSAPPX gets me stuck in a loop at startup

I have a problem since my last windows update yesterday. When I start my computer and get past the login screen I get to a black screen (wallpaper not loaded) with just a line at the bottom that I assume is the folded task bar. It keeps disappearing/reappearing as if explorer was killed and restarted in a loop.
I can still access the task manager and after some fiddling I found that killing one of the two "wsappx" processes ends the loops and let the session start normally.
Any idea whats happening here ? What is that process for ? I ran the malware removal procedure from the sticky post already, found a bitcoin miner, but it didnt change the boot problem.

How to run Bitcoin Core 0.20.0 on Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS using a Raspberry Pi 4 (or Virtual Machine)

I was helping someone on twitter with this so I figured I'd share the information here as well so that other people would have an easier time than I did.
I'm going to explain how to do this setup on a Raspberry Pi, but note that this should work on a VM as well. You can also set up and run the node headless this way, but I will be explaining how to set up the node using a monitor that you can then later disconnect and access remotely once everything is setup.
Hardware:
-Raspberry Pi 4 (2GB RAM minimum) preferably 4GB RAM -Raspberry Pi 4 Heatsinks -Raspberry Pi 4 case -Micro HDMI cable -USB-C power cable and wall adapter -Monitor -Keyboard and mouse -Ethernet cable (Optional) -16GB or larger microSD card -500GB or larger external hard drive (SSD or portable)
Node Requirements: -50 KBps upload internet speeds (Most people should have this) -Unlimited or high data cap internet download/upload service -6 hours or longer per day dedicated run time
Okay, once you have the hardware its time to get started!
The first thing you'll need to do is install the Raspberry Pi imager, this is how we're going to install Ubuntu onto our Raspberry Pi. After your download and install finishes, open the imager.
  1. Click the "choose OS" box and from the list select Ubuntu, then select Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS (Raspberry Pi 2/3/4).
  2. Insert your microSD card to your computer directly or via a USB converter. Click "choose SD card" and select your inserted microSD card.
  3. Click "Write" and wait for the imager to finish flashing the OS onto your card
When it is done, remove the SD card and reinsert it to access the files installed. You can choose the overclock the Raspberry Pi by editing the config file. To connect to the Raspberry Pi remotely, you'll need to create an SSH file. If you're on windows this is pretty easy. In the File Explorer, highlight the address bar at the top, erase the text and type cmd, press enter and the Command Prompt will pop up. Type the following:
echo\ssh
This will create an SSH file in your SD directory so that you can remote access the Rasberry Pi later. Now you can go ahead and eject the SD card from your computer.
Now we can set up the Raspberry Pi
Go ahead and connect all your peripherals to your Raspberry Pi, insert the microSD, and connect it to power to turn it on. Give it a moment to boot up, then when prompted enter "ubuntu" for the password. It will make you change the password. Afterward, it will print a bunch of information to the screen, write down the IPv4 address, this is the IP address you'll use to remote access the Raspberry Pi. Now, at any time you can remote access your Raspberry Pi by entering a terminal on another PC in your network and typing:
ssh [email protected](your IP address)
The next step is to install a desktop. There are plenty to choose from so feel free to use a different one than what I use, you can also choose to ignore this and to just work from in the terminal from this point forward.
You need to update all the repositories so type: (Note you'll either have to be connected by ethernet or have edited the network-config file to setup your wifi in advance)
sudo apt-get update
Once it's done updating type the following to upgrade your system:
sudo apt-get upgrade
Now that you're up-to-date, you can install the desktop using the command:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop
This will take a while to download and install so just sit back and let it do its thing. Once it's done downloading, restart your Raspberry Pi and log in with the password you changed earlier. Your first boot may take a while so just be patient, don't freak out if you see a single purple square in the center of the screen while it's loading. You should now have the Ubuntu desktop ready to go and now it's on to installing Bitcoin Core!
Installing Bitcoin Core 0.20.0
Since we're running Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS, it should come preinstalled with the Snap Store. This makes installing apps very easy and works similar to pip install in Python. Simply open your terminal and type:
sudo snap install bitcoin-core
This will install Bitcoin Core into your Snap folder and will add the application to your system. Unfortunately, there are still a few steps left before we can begin downloading the blockchain. By default, Bitcoin Core doesn't have the removable-media Plug connected to the Socket. You can view this by typing:
snap connections bitcoin-core
This means when you try installing everything onto your external hard drive, Bitcoin Core won't be able to identify it or write to it even when passed the directory path. To fix this first locate your Snap folder, make a copy of the bitcoin-core folder inside, and paste it into your external drive.
NOTE: You must make a copy, you can't just move the snap file to the external drive.
Now, you can connect the removable-media Plug to the Socket by typing:
sudo snap connect bitcoin-core:removable-media :removable-media
This gives you the read/write permissions necessary to access the /media path. Finally, you can now launch Bitcoin Core and select "use a custom directory path" when prompted. Highlight the current directory path and replace it with the path to your external hard drive, it should look something like this:
/media/(external drive)/bitcoin-core/common/.bitcoin
This is why we had to make a copy of the bitcoin-core folder to the external drive earlier, the Bitcoin Core application will create the new data directory through ".bitcoin". Hit "Okay" and the application will begin synchronizing with the network! Once the synchronization is finished your very own node will be up and running!
EDIT: (08/01/2020) Bitcoin Core 0.20.01 has been released, I will update the tutorial soon with how to run the latest release.

JJSPLOIT IS NOT SAFE. DO NOT GET IT. LET ME EXPLAIN.

So basically, i got JJsploit, ans suddenly my computer was running alot slower. task manager showed that my CPU usage was at 40 to 50% usage with nothing open. It showed that VMII provider host was what is using all that resources. normally that process doesnt use that much. JJsploit was using VMII provider host to carry out the bitcoin mining, or whatever else they are doing. So I restarted windows management instrumentation in services, and instantly my computer CPU usage goes down to a 6%. So this proves that JJsploit is a virus, because it is the only exploit I ever had on my system. Do not download JJsploit, and if you already have, then do what I said in the description

College essay on bitcoin and computers. Thought you all might enjoy this.
